We have three options available for international physicians.
1. If you, the physician, have attended a United States medical school or residency program and returned to work in your home country for at least 2 years, we will sponsor your H-1B temporary worker visa. The H-1B visa allows a foreign nationals to enter the United States for professional-level employment (up to six years).
2. If you have attended a United States medical school or residency program and have not returned to your home country for at least two years, we will apply for and sponsor your J-1 Visa Waiver, as well as sponsor your H-1B temporary worker visa.
3. If you have attended a foreign medical school, you will need to complete the following steps:
a) The Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates needs to provide certification.
b) You will need to complete a U.S. Residency program.
c) You will need to be licensed in Illinois.
d) As a physician, you can sit for the medical exam and be licensed in the state of Illinois after your first year of residency. You can work for MD at Home part-time after receiving your Illinois medical license.
The American Medical Association and the Education Commission on Foreign Medical Graduates are great resources for information on working in the United States as a physician.
